This type of accommodation fosters sustainable tourism, provides an opportunity for visitors to integrate into the community and distributes the economic benefit more widely.
A right to dignified accommodation is the fourth cornerstone of a state of well-being. Having accommodation in proper condition must become a basic right, given its key role in improving the quality of life of the city's residents. The current economic situation has highlighted the need for applying a social approach to housing policies, to dampen the effects of the crisis on the more vulnerable among our fellow citizens.
Barcelona Links features the endeavours and conclusions of 24 workshops held at the School of Architecture. The task was concentrated in seven major areas of urban discontinuity, a diagnosis was arrived at and alternatives produced that revealed previously unidentified opportunities for improvement and development. The issue of links is a vital and pressing issue in metropolitan Barcelona because our territory, despite being a rich, diverse and powerful mosaic, is also a piecemeal assortment of barriers. A new political awareness will have to emerge sooner or later to enable a solution to these barriers to be formulated with exactitude, legitimacy and a successful outcome.
