Ideas, strategies and projects that give rise to pilot projects. They tackle the challenges raised by the stakeholders involved and which are found in particular places in Barcelona or Medellín.

Inclusion district, Estación Villa

This old neighbourhood, which has been cut off from the rest of Medellín, by major public works covers 21 hectares in the heart of the city’s traditional centre. It is an area where illicit, undesirable and disturbing activities have become established. In the 1970s, the neighbourhood was declared renewal land, but no positive urban process has as yet taken place.

We accept and understand the dynamics, activities, residents and uses that now exist in Estación Villa and we are working to turn this area into a district for inclusion. People living on the street, sex works, dealers in second-hand goods, recyclers, mechanics and traditional residents and tenants all live here together according to their own rules and in harmony.

We launched this proposal by focusing on the people living on the street. By dividing up the home and locating the amenities it offers at strategic points in the area, we planned the construction of these amenities (bedroom, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, etc.) at the neighbourhood level.

Why use traditional methods of intervention when all that happens is that these groups move and, rather than adapting, take their circumstances and the problems that these entail with them? Why not consider interventions suited to them? Why not base oneself on their dynamics and think about the city in the way that they see it and live in it? Why not think about a city in constant motion?
